Virgie Butler Hill

Virgie Butler Hill, 100, of West Blackwater Road, passed quietly and peacefully into eternal rest on July 16, 2005, at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
She was born Feb. 25, 1905 in Isle of Wight County to the late Samuel and Julia Butler. Virgie was a homemaker and raised many children inside and outside of her home. She was a longstanding and faithful member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Windsor.
Virgie was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Hill, and two sons, Alton Hill and John Wesley Hill.
Virgie leaves to cherish her memory three daughters; Edna Hill of Windsor, Margie Smith of Jersey City, N.J., and Veronica Williams of Newark, N.J.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A wake will be held at from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shivers Funeral Chapel, at 12749 Courthouse Highway in Smithfield. The homegoing service will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, July 21, 2005 at Morning Star Baptist Church in Windsor with the Rev. Johnny Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ Cemetery.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the following persons for caring for Virgie during her time of illness: the first floor staff at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, the staff of Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, the staff at Tandem Nursing Home, Udessa Liggins, Arnett Scott, Jennifer Edward and Vivian Nicholson.
Arrangements have been made by the Shivers Funeral Chapel.
