Nguyen and Alwood unite

Austin, Texas — The marriage of Dan-Tam Thuy Nguyen of Austin, Texas and Robert Barlow Alwood of Midlothian, Virginia took place June 4, 2005.
Vows were exchanged in Austin’s Holy Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church with Father Joseph Van Nguyen officiating in English and Vietnamese.
The bride’s parents are Thanh Nguyen and Dao Huynh. The groom’s parents are Suffolk natives, David and Nancy Alwood. The bride’s paternal grandparents are Linh Luu and Hai Nguyen of Saigon, Vietnam.
Her maternal grandparents are Tam Le and the late Hunh Huynh, also of Saigon. The groom’s paternal grandparents are Bob and Fran Alwood of Suffolk. His maternal grandparents are Lynn and Joe Barlow and the late Margaret Taylor Barlow, also of Suffolk.
A traditional Vietnamese Engagement ceremony preceded the church service. The bride’s family hosted lunch in their home between the engagement ceremony and the nuptial Mass.
The groom’s family hosted a rehearsal dinner the night before at Curra’s Mexican Grill.
The wedding reception was a Vietnamese feast attended by more than 300 guests at the Sea Dragon Restaurant.
The bride is a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin with a degree in chemical engineering.
The groom is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in electrical engineering. Following a honeymoon on the Big Island of Hawaii, the couple will reside in Springfield, Virginia where the groom is employed by ENSCO Engineering.
