A former employee is the chief suspect in a forgery investigation at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on West Constance Road, police said.
Between 10 and 15 residents, ranging in age from 59 to 96, have filed complaints that someone forged and cashed their checks in recent months, said Lt. Debbie J. George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department.
Detectives are investigating several allegations of grand larceny and forgery, she said.
George refused to say how much money was missing but court records show that it could involve as much as $10,000.
Although no arrests have been made, the department has interviewed an employee fired from the healthcare facility earlier this summer, George said. She refused to release her name.
Police are preparing direct indictments to go before a grand jury later this month, she added.
