Firefighters from around Hampton Roads will be asking for your help to help them &uot;Fill The Boot&uot; from Thursday, Aug. 25 through Sunday, Aug. 28.
&uot;Fill The Boot&uot; is an annual fundraising campaign that benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Last year during &uot;Fill The Boot,&uot; firefighters raised $198,313 for Hampton Roads children and adults battling neuromuscular disorders.
Specifically in Suffolk, last year’s campaign raised over $34,500.
This year’s goal is set at $37,000.
Kim Morrison, who is heading &uot;Fill The Boot&uot; for the Suffolk Fire Department, said, &uot;All the money given stays local with the Hampton Roads area.&uot;
&uot;It goes for research for 43 neuromuscular diseases that are under the umbrella of the MDA,&uot; said Morrison.
Firefighters will be at major intersections and/or shopping centers all over Hampton Roads with their boots so that motorists may give their dollars and change to help fire fighters in their support of MDA.
Suffolk’s two Wal Marts will have fire fighters present throughout the campaign, but be on the lookout for boots at the ready all over Suffolk.
MDA helps children and adults who are affected by neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA’s comprehensive medical services and research programs.
MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the Association.
&uot;If they see a fire fighter with an orange shirt on we definitely want people to donate.&uot; said Morrison.
So please take a moment to drop a donation into a boot when you see your area fire fighters out and about from Aug. 25 to Aug. 28.
