Missionary fundraiser

Cornerstone Mission Baptist Church is having a car wash, yard sale and bake sale beginning at 7 a.m. Aug. 20 at Advance Auto on Holland Road.

Macedonia AME’s anniversary

Macedonia African Methodist Episcopal Church, 127 Pine St, is celebrating its 135th anniversary with a homecoming service and revival. Activities will start at 9 a.m. Aug. 20, with workshops and games, and will end Aug. 26 with a concert by the Edward Wilson Ensemble.

Homecoming service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 21 with the Rev. Anthony N. Jones, a Suffolk native and pastor of Tyree African Methodist Church in Philadelphia, as guest speaker. The 135th anniversary service will be held at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Andrea Pierre Jefferson and his congregation from Bethel AME Church. The Rev. Steven A. Blunt, pastor of First Baptist Church, Mahan Street will conduct nightly revival services from 7 a.m. Aug. 22-25.

Chapel Grove United Church of Christ

Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church, 635 Brook Ave., Suffolk, will celebrate its annual homecoming at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21 with a special service and dinner following. The Rev. Joe B. Fleming and the Third Baptist Church of Portsmouth are the guests. Beginning Monday, Aug. 22-26, Rev. Fleming will preach each night during a Fall Revival at Lakeview Missionary. Ebenezer hosts women’s event

Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 1589 Steeple Drive, is hosting a women’s seminar, &uot;Trusting God in the Midst of Your Circumstances,&uot; from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1. Faith of Deliverance’s youth trip

The Youth Department of Faith of Deliverance is sponsoring a trip to Six Flags in Baltimore, Md., on Sept. 10. Cost is $65 person, which includes tickets, bus fare and a meal voucher. The bus will leave Wal-Mart in Suffolk at 7 a.m. A non-refundable deposit of $35 is due by Aug. 20; the remainder is due by Sept. 3. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Oxford clothes closet available

As part of Oxford United Methodist’s church’s mission work in the city of Suffolk, the congregation is operating a clothes closet. The program has been running since June 30. Operation hours are from 9 a.m. to noon every Thursday. Hours will expand as the need grows and the closet becomes mores established.

Oxford is partnering with other local churches to meet the growing need in Suffolk. Residents are asked to assist in the following areas: prayer, volunteering, and donations (pick-up is available). To assist, call 434-1405.
