Tonight, the beginning of a new era!
Well, actually, it’s just the start of a new high football season. But for gridiron fans across Suffolk, there’s a new place to be on Friday nights. Here’s what’s going on around town.
-Nansemond River vs. Kecoughtan, 7 p.m. Last year, the Warriors’ offense staggered through a disappointing loss in their opener, and it wasn’t the first time they came close in a loss. River needs to get ahead early and stay there – and not just tonight – to keep the heat off their defense.
-Lakeland vs. Lake Taylor, 7 p.m. The Cavaliers came within a few touchdowns of shooting toward the top of the district last season – the fact that they only won one is belied by the fact that they were in almost every game. Perhaps they need to steal some of the field hockey team’s good luck!
-King’s Fork vs. Norview, 7 p.m. Wouldn’t it be outstanding if King’s Fork’s first touchdown and win came on the same night – and starting off a season that way would make it even better!
-Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at Windsor, 7:30 p.m. The Saints are lacking in numbers – just over 20 players came out this season. A Windsor squad looking to beat NSA for the first time won’t be sympathetic.
