Wiggins family reunion

The Wiggins family reunion will be held Sunday, Sept. 4 and Monday, Sept. 5.

The family will gather together for church on Sunday at New Paul’s Temple Holiness Church on 720 Hosier Road.

The reunion will conclude on Monday with a picnic at Sleepy Hole Park.

Driver Ruritan ham dinner

The Driver Ruritan Club is holding a ham dinner fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 10 from noon to 6 p.m.

Both eat-in and take-out meals are $5 each.

The dinner is being held at Berea Christian Church on Driver Lane.

The meal will be sliced, baked ham, green beans, potato salad and a roll.

Iced tea and coffee will be included with eat-in meals.

We will have a sweet table set up with homemade items available for additional cost.

Boston Butt Sale

The Magnolia Ruritan Club will hold a Boston butt sale on Saturday Sept. 17 at their clubhouse located at 1047 Nansemond Parkway.

The Boston butts will be cooked by the members and are available for sale at $20 each and include a pint of barbeque sauce.

Civic league meeting cancelled

The Saratoga-Philadelphia Civic League meeting slated for Tuesday night has been cancelled. The meeting has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at Lakeview Baptist Church.

Suffolk Department of Health events

The Suffolk Department of Health will be holding free blood pressure screenings later this month at three locations.

On Tuesday, Sept. 20 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the main lobby of Chorey Park Apartments at 804 West Constance Road; on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the lobby of Suffolk Towers at 181 North Main Street.

Also on Sept. 21, there will be free blood pressure and diabetes screening at the Suffolk Senior Center at 350 North Main Street from 10 a.m. until noon.

55 Alive

The Suffolk Chapter of the AARP will sponsor the 55 Alive driving class on September 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The class will be held at the Suffolk Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Broad and Constance.

The cost is $10.

Class size will be limited.

The Virginia Zoo needs volunteers

The Virginia Zoo is seeking energetic people to volunteer at our annual fundraiser, ZooToDo 2005, presented by Bank of America.

There are a variety of shifts and tasks we need to fill in order to prepare for the big event.

In return for six volunteer hours worked, volunteers will be offered a free ticket to ZooToDo 2005.

ZooToDo 2005 features great food from area restaurtants, entertainment from the Calypso Nuts and All That!, dancing and auctions.

The event will be on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 7:00 to 11:30 p.m.

Volunteer opportunities are available before, during and after the event.
