Vernon Lloyd Winslow

Vernon Lloyd Winslow, 61, of the 1200 block of Old Somerton Road, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005 in his home.
Mr. Winslow was born in Gates County, N.C. and was the son of the late Ocil and Myrtle Copeland Winslow. The owner and operator of Winslow’s Mobile Home Service, Inc., he was a member and deacon of Liberty Spring Christian Church where he had served on the Finance and Pastor Search committees, a member of the Suffolk Moose Lodge, the Tidewater Motorcycle Club, a former member of the Nansemond-Suffolk rescue Squad and had served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Surviving are his wife Mary Valery Winslow; three daughters, Janice Ellis and husband Michael, Stephanie King and husband Corky, and Det Rae Ellis and husband Dennie, all of Suffolk; three step-children, Lorelei Porter and husband Gary of Gainesville, Fla., Deborah Marie Douglas of Virginia Beach and John Barnes and wife Beth of Moyock, N.C.; three brothers, Eddie Winslow of Gates, Bruce Winslow of Corapeake and Don Winslow of Wilson, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, Chelsea, Holly, Joshua, Kayce, John, Dillon, Dakota, Christopher, Lauren, Zachary, Dylan, Jamie and John Micheal.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Liberty Spring Christian Church by the Rev. Allen Lancaster. Burial will follow in Eureka Baptist Church Cemetery in Corapeake, N.C. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home in Gatesville, N.C. and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to any chapter of the American Cancer Society or to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad.
