Suffolk Art League offers classes at Suffolk Museum

The Suffolk Art League and Suffolk Museum will offer the following classes and workshops. These will be held at the Suffolk Museum, 118 Bosley Ave. To register, send the student’s name, address, age and parent name for children’s classes only and daytime phone number along with the appropriate registration fee(s) to Suffolk Art League, P.O. YOUNG ARTISTS

Thursday, October 13

2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

For ages 3 to 5

Registration fee is $4 SAL members/$5 non-members

Registration deadline is Oct. 7.

These young artists will have fun while participating in age appropriate art activities. Students will use their natural creativity while exploring a variety of art materials and themes. All necessary materials provided.

CHILDREN’S DRAWING AND PAINTING

Tuesdays, October 18 – November 8

4:15 – 5:45 p.m.

For ages 7 to 14

Instructor will be Gail Saunders

Registration fee is $27 SAL members/$30 non-members

Registration deadline is Oct. 13.

During the first 2 classes, different drawing techniques such as perspective, shading and spatial relationships will be taught. The last 2 weeks, students will have the opportunity to create an acrylic painting on canvas while learning about mixing and blending color, uses of color, value and composition. All material provided. A paint shirt is recommended.

BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE PASTEL

Tuesdays, October 25 – November 29

9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

For ages 14 to adult.

Instructor will be Debbie Hobbs.

Registration fee is $36 SAL members/$40 non-members.

Registration deadline is Oct. 18.

Pastels are a wonderful medium for beginning artists. Students will work to improve their drawing skills while learning about uses of color, value and composition. No prior experience required. A complete materials list is available at time of registration.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED PASTEL

Tuesdays, October 25 – November 29

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

For ages 14 to adult.

Instructor will be Debbie Hobbs.

Registration fee is $36 SAL members/$40 non-members.

Registration deadline is Oct. 18.

Continue to improve your drawing skills while working on subjects of your own choice. Instruction on composition, uses of color and a variety of pastel techniques as well as constructive critiques will be offered. A suggested materials list is available at time of registration.

BEGINNING PEN & INK

Thursdays, October 13 – 27

6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

For ages 14 to adult.

Instructor will be Gail Saunders.

Registration fee is $30 SAL members/$35 non-members. An optional materials fee of $15 includes all necessary materials.

Registration deadline is Oct. 6

This class will begin with a drawing skills review including perspective and spatial relationship exercises. Students will then learn the basics of how to create a detailed Pen & Ink drawing. A suggested materials list is available at time of registration or pay the optional materials fee.

WATERCOLOR PAINTING CLASS

Thursdays, October 13 – November 17

6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

For ages 15 to adult.

Instructor will be Barbara West.

Registration fee is $50 SAL members/$60 non-members.

Registration deadline is Oct. 6

The class begins with instruction on skills and techniques used in watercolor painting. Students will learn to determine color values and create different effects and texture in their painting. Students may then bring in reference material (photos, magazine pictures, etc.) from which they can create a painting of their own. A suggested materials list is available at time of registration or pay an optional $20 materials fee. Basic drawing experience preferred.

BEGINNING OIL PAINTING

Thursdays, October 20 – November 10

1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

For ages 14 to adult.

Instructor will be Gail Saunders.

Registration fee is $40 SAL members/$45 non-members. An optional materials fee of $15 includes all necessary materials.

Registration deadline is Oct. 13.

Oil paints offer the artist such luscious color and texture. In this 4-week class, you will learn the basic techniques used to create an oil painting. Students will first work on class exercises and then have the opportunity to work on a subject of their own choice. A suggested materials list is available at time of registration or pay the optional materials fee.

QUILTING

Learn to create your own quilted heirlooms, whether bed-sized, wall hanging or placemat. A variety of techniques can be explored including tradition hand-piecing, stained glass and appliqu\u00E9. Sewing experience needed. A materials list is available at time of registration.

BASKET MAKING WORKSHOP: MAIL BASKET

Saturday, November 5

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

For adults.

Instructor will be Sherry Matthews.

Registration fee is $12, an additional $10 materials fee is paid to the instructor.

Registration deadline is Oct. 29.

Learn a little about the history and techniques of basket making. Enjoy making a useful and beautiful heirloom treasure mail basket. Bring a towel.
