In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Genieve Shelter will be hosting several events to inform the public about domestic violence and the services currently available for victims.

On Wednesday, Oct. 12, the agency will host a fundraiser at Cold Stone Creamery, located at 5860 Harbourview Boulevard in Suffolk from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Local council members, sheriffs and other governmental officials will prepare delicious ice cream treats for patrons. Confirmed participants include Suffolk Vice Mayor Leroy Bennett, Council member Linda Johnson, Smithfield Town Manager Peter Stephenson and Southampton County Administrator Michael Johnson. All tips and donations will benefit hurricane Katrina victims.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, a candlelight vigil will be held in the courtyard area of the Godwin Court Building on Main Street commencing at 6 p.m., followed by a reception at the Shooting Star Gallery, 118 N. Main Street in Suffolk.
