The Bennett’s Creek Pop Warner football teams have a very simple strategy for bringing home a victory.

&uot;If they can’t score,&uot; teams often chant before and during a game, &uot;they can’t win!&uot;

On Saturday afternoon at John Yeates Middle School, several Warrior squads proved their proclamation’s validity. The Junior Pee-Wee, Pee-Wee and Midget teams all got shutout victories.

The Midgets were the first to win, snaring a 16-0 victory over Virginia Beach on the strength of touchdowns by Darius Young and David Hommel. The Junior Pee-Wee team defeated Suffolk Inner-City 6-0 in overtime, as Rausheeim Thompson crossed the goal line. The Pee-Wee boys also beat IC, 16-0, as Joel Coleman got both touchdowns.

IC, however, took a few wins of its own. Walter Boykins scored all the points as the Junior Midget team upped its record to 5-0 with an 18-0 defeat of BC, and Curtis Ralph notched the only Steeler score as IC’s Mighty Mites beat Creek, 7-6. Gerard Gomes, Laray Kendrick and Rodriguez Johnson all hit the endzone as IC’s Midgets beat Smithfield, 21-13.
