Obici offering breast cancer tea, team

-The Obici Wellness Center, along with the Suffolk Family YMCA, will host a Breast Health and Breast Cancer Awareness tea in October with the Suffolk Family YMCA. There will be two chances to join in on this free event:

Thursday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. with Obici’s Breast Health Coordinator Barbara Gardella, RN, and Breast Cancer survivor Jackie Edwards.

Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. with Plastic Surgeon Helena Guarda, MD and Breast Health Coordinator Barbara Gardella, RN.

Both times will offer information on breast cancer and breast health. Dr. Guarda will offer information on breast reconstruction options. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

-Walkers and runners are invited to join Obici Hospital’s, &uot;Race for The Cure,&uot; team in the fifth annual event held on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The race offers a 5K Run/Walk, a one mile Family Fun Walk, or the Kids for the Cure Dash. Staggered start times begin at 8:45 a.m. A survivor parade is at 8 a.m. and an awards ceremony is at 10 a.m.

The registration fee is $20 per person and includes a T-shirt and goody bag. The deadline to enter has been extended.
