Addie Almond

Addie Otelia Almond, 84, of 207 North 7th Street, died Oct. 6 in Obici Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Emma Bay Butler and Greeley Porter.
She was born in Nansemond County, and attended Nansemond City Schools. She retired from Planters Peanut in 1983 after 35 years of service. She was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vandybe Almond Sr.; one son, Willie (Mikey Almond); two sisters, Margaret Whitfield and Gracie Mae Thorton; three brothers, Jasper Porter, Harvey Porter and Greeley Porter Jr.
She is survived by three sons, Vandybe Almond (Jewel) of Raleigh, N.C., and Earl Lee (Brenda), Alvin Lee (Susan) and Calvin Lee Almond, all of Suffolk; one special niece, Elsie Newby; three sister-in-laws, Annie Mary Almond and Lenora Almond of Suffolk and Viola Almond of Baltimore, Md.; one stepsister, Dalleaner Holliman of Windsor; one devoted caretaker, Sarah Bynum; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon Oct. 10 at the Tabernacle Christian Church by Dr. Carlton Upton. The body will be taken to the church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 207 North 7th Street.
