The Lake Kilby Garden Club will meet at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 in the private dining room at Lake Prince Woods.

Bennetts Creek Ruritan will be holding Turkey-Ham Shoots every Saturday evening from Oct. 1 through Nov. 26.

The shoots will be at a new location, 5433 Shoulders Hill Road.

The benefits help the Driver Volunteer Fire Department, Boy Scout Troop 16 and the North Suffolk YMCA.

Tickets go on sale each Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and the shoot starts at 6 p.m.

Pig Pickin’ for Hurricane Katrina donations

The Suffolk Pentecostal Holiness Church, 100 Kilby Shores Drive, is hosting a city wide &uot;All you can Eat Pig Pickin’&uot; on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12 and free for children under five.

There will be games and entertainment in addition to the delicious meal.

All proceeds and donations will go to Hurricane Katrina victims.

The Nansemond Chapter of the Archeological Society of Virginia will hold its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 at Dennis’ Restaurant, 3356 Western Branch Blvd. in Chesapeke.

Girl Scout Food Drive

Girl Scouts throughout the area will be collecting food from doorsteps between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Oct. 22 to support area food banks.

Suffolk Literacy Council workshop

The Suffolk Literacy Council (SLC) recently received a grant from the Virginia Literacy Foundation to establish a tutoring program to teach English to speakers of other languages.

An ESL (English as a second language) workshop for tutors is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Suffolk Christian Church.

Mary Burleson, the ESL Coordinator for Peninsula Reads will be presenting the workshop.

A box lunch will be served.
