Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar will open its second eatery in the city later this month.
The new restaurant, located in northern Suffolk at the intersection of College Drive and Lake View Parkway, will open for business at 11 a.m. Oct. 24.
The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce will kick off the opening day with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
More than 100 full- and part-time employees are being hired to work in the 4,300-square-foot restaurant, said Stacey Elro, a company spokeswoman.
Nic Renz, the restaurant’s general manager, is looking forward to the opening.
&uot;We want everyone to come dine with us,&uot; he said. &uot;Residents and visitors alike will enjoy our great menu and beverage choices.
&uot;We offer a comfortable atmosphere with complete children’s menu as well as Weight Watchers entrees for those counting calories.&uot;
The restaurant’s employees will have a final training exercise on Oct. 22, with an invitation-only benefit dinner for city officials and community leaders. Although guests will eat and drink for free, they will be asked to make donations that will benefit the two local charities – Big Brothers & Big Sisters of South Hampton Roads and the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts.
&uot;We really try to embrace the neighborhoods where we open restaurants,&uot; said Elro. &uot;All of our restaurants get involved with local organizations in communities where they are located.&uot;
