Saints, Warriors take two each

Uriah Adams carried for 108 yards and two touchdowns as Nansemond-Suffolk defeated visiting Bennett’s Creek 39-0 in Pop Warner Mighty Mite action Saturday.

Uriah scored his first touchdown on a 25-yard reverse handoff from Tyler Salas, who ran for the extra points to go up 8-0. The Saints quickly got the ball back, and Uriah rushed 22 yards to reach the Creek five. Salas got to the three, and Greg Jewett rolled up the middle for the score.

Again, Creek was held without a first down, and Tyler and Uriah combined for 27 yards to reach the Warrior 33. A holding penalty knocked them back to the 39, and Greg ran back to the 33 before Tyler bolted around the left side for his team’s third touchdown. Michael Lepore got in for the extra point to up the score at 20-0 at halftime.

Uriah scored again in the third quarter on a 29-yard run, and Michael ran 19 yards for another score. Haden Spalding went 26 yards for the Saints’ final score.

In Pee-Wee action, C.J. White scored both touchdowns as the Saints defeated Norfolk 14-0.

Over at Yeates Middle School, Joel Coleman, Reggie Love and Terrell Lassiter scored as the Pee-Wee Warriors beat Smithfield 18-7. Creek’s Junior Midgets also won.

The Bennett’s Creek football league will be holding its Homecoming from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at John Yeates Middle School. A basket raffle will be held, with autographed jerseys from Michael Vick and Aaron Brooks up for grabs. Tickets are $1 apiece. The Nansemond River High band will perform, and various vendors will attend. The BC cheerleaders will hold a yard sale, and a rhythm and blues band will put on a show.
