Group to study proposed parking facility

Business leaders will be asked this week to back a proposal to build a public parking facility in downtown Suffolk

The Downtown Business Association, slated to meet at 3 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Bank of America’s boardroom, will study a proposal endorsing a public-private parking facility along the east side of South Main Street. The proposed facility would extend from Main Street Jazz Restaurant to the railroad.

Sherwin Turner and Horace Balmer, owners of Main Street Jazz, have offered to lease property behind their business to the city for a parking. The city would build the parking facility

If adopted, the DBA’s resolution supporting the project would be forwarded to the Suffolk City Council, said Andy Damiani, DBA president. For information, call 539-1216.
