Sara Lee selling 1 of 2 facilities

Sara Lee announced Wednesday that the company will be selling one of its two facilities in Suffolk but that the deal will not impact current workers.

According to Kathleen Gilgunn, a spokeswoman at Sara Lee’s Chicago headquarters, the company’s U.S. Retail Coffee business will be purchased by Segafredo Zanetti Group, based in Italy, for $82.5 million. The deal should be finalized by the end of December, Gilgunn said

Sara Lee bought the U.S. Retail Coffee business from Nestle in late 1999. That part of Sara Lee’s overall operation is headquartered in Harrison, N.Y., and there are 225 employees between that location and Suffolk, with 180 of them working here.
