Evelyn Arthur Standin

Evelyn Arthur Standin, 92, of Suffolk, who was born Aug. 5, 1913, died Oct. 28, 2005. She was a graduate of Whaleyville High School and Appalachian State College.

She worked 36 years as a teacher for the Suffolk Public School system and also taught in Nansemond County and at Nansemond Suffolk Academy. She truly loved all of her students, educating them, and always keeping their best interests at heart.

She was a native of Nansemond County and the widow of Shelby George Standin.

She was a member of Somerton United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also taught Sunday school classes while attending Oxford United Methodist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Mary Sue Goodman Arthur and Thomas Vernon Arthur.

She was also predeceased by her son, Shelby George Standin, Jr.; her brothers and sisters, Sally Stephenson, Janice Eggleston, William Thomas Arthur, John Goodman Arthur, Martha Cooper

Blanchard, and Bruce Arthur; and her nephews, Edward Stephenson and Durwood &uot;Woody&uot; Blanchard.

She is survived by her nephews, Henry Arthur, Thomas Arthur, II, Eugene Arthur, William Blanchard, and James Blanchard; her niece, Sadie Seymore, several great-nieces and -nephews and a great-great-niece and nephew. Many friends and past students will also remember her.
