Charles H. Davis

Charles H. Davis of 980 Bells Mill Road in Chesapeake went home to be with the Lord Nov. 22, 2005 at Chesapeake General Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, the Rev. John Clayton Davis and Maggie Turner Davis, as well as Alice L. Davis and a daughter Dorothy D. Davis. He was also predeceased by his brothers Rev. Walter Davis and Cardwell Davis.

Charles is survived by his loving wife Mary Scott-Davis, his daughter Alberta H. Thompson of Portsmouth, one stepdaughter Judith Scott Haynie of Heathsville, his sons, Charles E. Davis (Joyce V.), Andrew V. Davis (Arlene) both of Chesapeake, Todd L. Davis of Virginia Beach and one stepson Robert T. Scott Jr. (Judy C.) of Suffolk. He is also survived by his five sisters, Jessie Gibson and Thelma Lewis of Waterbury, Conn., Marion Davenport of Bridgeport, Conn., and Pattie Overton of Allentown, Penn., He will also leave to mourn his four brothers, James Davis (Mary) George Davis (Sonja) and William Davis (Doris), all of Waterbury, Conn., as well as Elwood Davis (Hazel) of Elizabeth City, N.C.

He is also loved by his five sisters-in-laws, 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Charles was self-employed and owner for over 65 years of service for Charles H. Davis Plumbing and Heating Co. He will be missed by a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A homegoing service will be held at noon Nov. 26, 2005 at Lee’s Chapel AME, 1036 Bells Mill Road in Chesapeake. The Rev. Horace Cross will be officiating. The body will lie in state from 10 to the time of service.

Visitation will be at Harris Funeral Home, Inc. at 685 Carolina Road beginning at 10 a.m. Nov. 25. The family will receive friends at the family home, 980 Bells Mill Road, Chesapeake.
