Police looking for robbery suspects

Police are looking for two suspects who they believe robbed a downtown convenience store at gunpoint early Tuesday morning.

Two masked men allegedly went into the Southern Food Store in the 600 block of East Washington Street,

around 7 a.m. and ordered one of the four clerks to open the safe, said Detective Sgt. J. Coleman of the Suffolk Police Department. One man was armed with a handgun, he said.

The suspects forced the other employees onto the floor during the incident, he said. No one was hurt.

The suspects escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, Coleman said.

Both suspects are white and of thin- to- medium-build. One is approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall, the other between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches. Both were wearing hooded jackets during the robbery.

Anyone with information on this or any other crime is asked to call the Suffolk Police Department at 923-2350 or the Suffolk Crimeline at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
