President right on port issue, Feb. 23, 2007

I know all my liberal friends are going to flip over this (If I had any liberal friends…Shoot, if I had any friends), but I support President Bush in this port deal.
A United Arab Emirates company will, basically, be luggage handler at several East Coast ports.
I cannot recall another issue that brought politicos from both parties so strongly together. From Dennis Hastert and Bill Frist on the right to Hillary Clinton and Harry Reid on the left, senators and representatives are denouncing the situation, calling on the president to stop the deal and threatening legislation if he doesn’t.
The president, to his credit, isn’t having any of it and is threatening to veto any impulsive legislation these lamebrains come up with it.
They just don’t get it. Identical port agreements are in effect with Chinese,
and Danish companies. But what’s most outrageous is that UAE has been a close ally of the U.S. in the war on terror, sending humanitarian aid to Iraq and allowing U.S. troops to cross its soil at will.
What kind of message does it send to Middle Eastern nations we’re supposedly trying to democratize if we turn into wild-eyed whackos at the drop of a hat over what is really nothing?
The U.S. Coast Guard is in charge of port security, period. President Bush needs to stick to his guns on this one….
…Can you believe what happened in Austria last week? I’m referring to the loony British historian who has been denying aspects of the holocaust. An Austrian court sentenced him to three years in prison because it’s apparently against Austrian law to deny the holocaust.
I thought free speech and thought were central to western ideals?
And we in the west are shocked over the Arab world’s reaction to the Danish cartoons. We’re sending the wrong message to the world, folks.
