Mrs. John C. Harry Jr., of Suffolk, passed away from a brief illness on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Obici Hospital, surrounded by her children.

Callie Hobbs Harry was born on July 16, 1912, in Hobbsville, N.C, the daughter of the late E. J. and Sarah Frances Hobbs.

Callie was the widow of Mr. John C. Harry, Jr., and was pre-deceased by several siblings and one son, The Honorable G. Blair Harry of Suffolk.

Mrs. Harry graduated from the Lakeview Hospital School of Nursing in 1932, and worked in nursing for a number of years.

She later worked for the late Dr. Charles W. Steele.

She was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Harry is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Maryvonne Brinkley and Mrs. Mattie Mae Womble, both of Suffolk; three children, Mr. John C. Harry, III and his wife Billie Harry of Suffolk, Mrs. Elizabeth Harry Tarkington and her husband Steven Tarkington of Franklin, and Mr. C. Thomas Harry and his wife Carol Harry of Suffolk; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Rev. Michael Halley, with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery.

The family received friends at the funeral home Monday.

A reception will follow the service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Harry, III, 1101 Lake Point Lane, Suffolk.
