A Suffolk man who allegedly threatened to set a former girlfriend on fire over the weekend is being held without bond in Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

Matthew Scott Prince, 46, allegedly went into his former girlfriend’s house in Driver and assaulted her early Saturday morning, said Lt. Debbie J. George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department. He then tied her up with rope and plastic ties, dumped lamp oil on her and threatened to set her on fire, she said.

The victim, whose name is not being published, was treated and released from Obici Hospital, George said.
