March of Dimes gears up for walk
On Saturday, April 8, beginning at 8 a.m., the Suffolk Applebee’s Restaurant on North Main Street will host a car wash, yard sale and bake sale to benefit the March of Dimes.
The Suffolk WalkAmerica will be held on Sunday, May 7, kicking off at Constant’s Wharf Park by the Hilton Garden Inn.
Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the walk starts at 1:30 p.m.
The 2005 Suffolk TeamWalk consisted of more than 400 walkers, who raised more than $77,000 to help the March of Dimes’ Campaign for Healthier Babies. The target for WalkAmerica 2006 in Suffolk is $80,000.
Walkers take a beautiful route through the neighborhoods of Riverview and Lakeside before heading back downtown and to the shores of the Nansemond River for hamburgers, chips and more.
Teams are now forming. If you want to find out how to be a part of this local event designed to raise money for the March of Dimes, call Stacey Sult at the March of Dimes regional office at 361-0000 to RSVP or Bethanne Bradshaw, Suffolk walk chairman, at 925-6752 (work) or 925-1202 (home).
