George Lee Hicks, 82, of the 2500 block of Woodland Trail, Suffolk, died April 30, 2006 in Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. He was born in Nansemond County and was the son of the late Whitman Hicks Sr. and Carrie Jordan Hicks.
Mr. Hicks retired in 1984 as a Rigger for Newport News Shipbuilding (Tenneco) after 18 years of service. He was a member of Diamond Grove Baptist Church where he was a Trustee and Vice President of the Trustee Board, and member of the Choir and Usher Board. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Annie Porter Hicks; three daughters, Barbara Hicks Copeland (Richard), Selma Hicks Curry (John) of Charlotte, N.C., and Maxine Savage of Smithfield; one son, George Eugene Hicks (Elaine) of Norwalk, Conn.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one aunt, Edna Green; 5 brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Diamond Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Calvin A. Lillard. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The family will be at 2508 Woodland Trail. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Condolences may be offered at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
