Good discussion over the weekend, thanks. That’s unusual. As I had written here previously, Saturday is not normally one of our high-traffic days. I suppose everyone was home watching the British Open, like me.

This weekend’s major championship came on TV Saturday and Sunday at 7 a.m. because they are about six hours ahead of us. I watched Sunday morning until it was time to go to church. Then I stuck a tape in so I wouldn’t miss the ending. The church we went to had two big jumbo video screens on which they would put the lyrics to the hymns they were singing. I thought it wouldn’t have killed them to put one of those crawlers along the bottom with real time British Open scoring. That would have been a nice service for the golfing members of the congregation … I should probably stop there before I get in big trouble. I was a little upset because my tape ran out with Chris DeMarco just a shot behind Tiger with three to play …

I received a pleasant surprise in Saturday’s mail, a slick, glossy program about the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts. Normally, I don’t get to see mail that comes to my home. Cathy and I (mostly Cathy) decided about a decade into our marriage that I didn’t need to see the mail. Credit card and store account bills just get me upset. We found we get along much better if I’m walking around in a stupor of sorts, without real world troubles weighing me down.

Anyway, I guess she left the CCA program out on the table by mistake. It was sure impressive and looked like it could have come from a facility in Portsmouth. I kid you not, it was Portsmouth good.

The lineup of performers who will grace the CCA stage in the coming months was as impressive as the program. Frankly, the level of talent and notoriety of the performers was a big surprise, and a pleasant one at that.

Dionne Warwick christens the place at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. Tickets for that are $75 and $50. For $25 extra, you can have champagne with Dionne following her performance.

Thursday, Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m., John Corbett (He’s the guy from Northern Exposure, My Big Fat Greek Wedding), $35/$30

That is just a sampling. There are all kinds of other stuff in between n kid-oriented shows, plays, other performers.
