No other issue

I’m getting out of the predicting business.

City Council is meeting today at 4 p.m. to discuss their appointees. Appointees include the city manager, city attorney, city clerk and city assessor.

Anything could happen.

I understand that those rumored to have had Mr. Herbert in their sites: Mayor Johnson, Vice Mayor Milteer, Mr. Parr and Mr. Gardy, are steadfast in their determination to terminate his contract.

These four (and I understand there could be a fifth vote) believe the May 2 election was a call for change and no substantial change is possible as long as Mr. Herbert remains. Recent public criticism from a certain editorial page has perhaps made them even more determined to do this thing. People don’t like being told what to do, particularly by out-of-town pundits.

I plan on being there this afternoon to report what happens. Heck, I would likely go to this one even if I didn’t work at a newspaper.

Whatever happens, I hope today is the end of it. It’s time for city council to evacuate their bowels or get off the toilet. If it is decided that Mr. Herbert should remain, they need to cease the no-confidence votes and other such nonsense, publicly state their confidence in him and get on with the business of running the city.

I’ve been criticized by several people here for writing too much on this topic, but let’s face it: Until this is settled, there is no other issue.
