Delman Felton Sr., 79, of Arthur Drive, passed away Sept. 12,
at Sentara Obici Hospital, with his family at his side.
He was born in Nansemond County near Whaleyville where he lived his entire life.
He was the son of the late John and Cennie Felton and was also predeceased in death by his sister, Allie Jane Hollowell, and brothers Marvin and Staley Felton.
A lifelong and dedicated member of Holy Neck Christian Church, Delman was past Sunday School Superintendent, deacon and historian.
He was a 1943 graduate of Whaleyville High School and attended Elon College.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country in the Korean War.
He was a farmer and had been employed at Farmers Feed & Seed and Windsor Supply.
He co-owned Suffolk Hardware & Garden Center, owned Felton’s Woodcutting and supplied vegetables and produce from his garden for many friends and neighbors.
He was a past president of the Whaleyville Ruritan Club and Holy Neck-South Quay Ruritan Club, a past Worship Master of the McAllister Masonic Lodge #185, and worthy patron of the Eastern Star 137.
He was also a past leader of Boy Scout Troop 13, president of Eastern Virginia Association Layman’s Fellowship and chairman of the annual Felton family reunion for 28 years.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Margaret &uot;Bennie&uot; Hurst Felton; brother Samuel J. Felton and wife Maybelle of Wytheville; daughter Carol Jane Felton of New Market, and sons Dustan and Justan; son Marcus Delman Felton Jr. and wife Gayle of Kitty Hawk, N.C. and children Amy, Betsy and husband, Steve; Marc, and Evan; son John Hurst Felton and wife Gayle of Whaleyville; daughter Margaret (Beth) Goodwin and husband Ron and children Ben and wife Krystyn and daughter Alexis, Daniel and Amber; daughter Anita Felton Holland and husband Dewitt of Windsor, and children Timothy and Anthony.
Also surviving are many cousins, nephews and nieces which were a special part of his life.
Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. at Holy Neck Christian Church with the Rev. Dolan Talbert officiating along with a burial at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Friends may join the family Thursday, Sept. 14, from 7-8 p.m. at Harrell & Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, Va or at other times at the residence.
