Naomi B. Little

NORFOLK, Va. – Naomi Bass Little, a native of Seaboard, died October 11, 2006. She was the widow of Juan Little Sr.

Mrs. Little was a longtime member of Park Place Baptist Church, its Ann Judson Sunday School Class and played the piano in the church for many years. She volunteered at the Old Dominion University cafeteria for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Marlene L. Smith; a son, Juan Little Jr., both of Chesapeake; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. A. Wayne Cook. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Cox Funeral Home is in charge. Audrey S. Babb

SUFFOLK, Va. – Audrey Spady Babb, 82, died October 11, 2006, in her residence.

She was a lifetime member of Southside Baptist Church. She also belonged to the Women of the Moose Chapter 1315.

Survivors include her husband, William &uot;Bill&uot; Herbert Brinkley; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Parker of Suffolk and Peggy Ann Heidler of Chesapeake; four sons, Herman Babb Jr. of Hobbsville, William Earl Babb and Larry David Babb, both of Suffolk, Jerry Lee Babb of Corapeake; a brother, Earl T. Spady of Suffolk; a sister, Betty D. Buchanan of Portsmouth; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with Ladies of the Moose rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery, Dr. Charles Jones. Harrell & Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, is in charge. James S. Carter

SUFFOLK, Va. – James Samuel &uot;Sammy&uot; Carter, 77, a native of Gates County, died October 11, 2006. He was the widower of Evelyn Putnam Carter.

Carter retired as a chief for the Suffolk Fire Department. He was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church. From 1994-1998 Sammy served on Suffolk’s City Council. He was also a member of the Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685 and the Police Association of Virginia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his daughters, Sandra C. Matthews of Warfield, Va., Susan C. Spruill of Edwardsville, Ill., and Sherry C. Makar of Glenview, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday with fireman honors. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery by Chaplain Pete Bowman. Parr Funeral Home is in charge. Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Condolences may also be registered at www.parrfuneralhome.com.

Evelyn A. Walton

CARRSVILLE, Va. – Evelyn A. Walton, 77, a native of Murfreesboro, died October 11, 2006, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Walton was a widow and member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, Franklin.

Survivors include five daughters, Ann Boykins of Pennsylvania, Margaret Turner of Virginia, Janice Raynor of Massachusetts, Louise Goodman of Maryland and Diane Patrick of New Jersey; a son, Roy Walton of Virginia; three sisters; one brother; and 10 grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Piney Grove Baptist Church, Franklin. Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home is in charge.

Tawana Drake

HARRELLSVILLE n Tawana Carlock Drake, 55, a native of Mount Bayou, Mississippi, died October 6, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander.

Ms. Drake was a retail clothing salesperson.

Survivors include a daughter, Tawana Ramsey of Michigan; a son, Mustafa Drake of Texas; brothers, Abraham Williams of Michigan, McCoy Dembry of Aulander and Napoleon Hodgers of Oregon; and her sisters, Renata Davis and Annie May Simmons, both of Michigan.

Leroy Lassiter

MURFREESBORO n Leroy Lassiter, 63, a native of Sunbury, died October 11, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. at Nebo Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Holloman. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Murfreesboro. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include one brother, Joe Lewis Lassiter of Hobbsville; and three sisters, Fannie Cofield of Portsmouth, Va., Dorothy Stallings and Lois Marie Lassiter, both of Hobbsville.

Dorothy Johnson

Dorothy Frances “Pito” Johnson, 68, of Newport, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at Britthaven of Newport.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Best officiating. Burial will follow in Amariah Garner Cemetery.

She is survived by daughters, Karen Johnson of Newport, Melodie Taylor and husband Greg of South River and Stephanie Jensen and husband Kevin of Newport; a son, Bobbie Johnson, Jr. and wife Susan of Cripple Creek, CO; sisters, Kathleen Carter and Louise Carter, both of Potecasi, NC, Shirley Flythe of Conway, NC and Millie Arnold of Newport; grandchildren, Amy Bell, Bradley Bell, Matthew Bell, Christina Lozano, Gregory Johnson, Michael Taylor, Kevin, Cody, Jacob and Tyler Jensen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Johnson, Sr.

The family received friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Munden Funeral Home.

Adgie Smallwood

AHOSKIE n Adgie Lena “Gabby” Smallwood, 60, a native of Norfolk, Va., died October 11, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Franklin D. Williams. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Smallwood was a member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. She was a missionary, on the usher board and its senior choir.

Survivors include her husband, Roland W. Smallwood of Ahoskie; one son, Wallace Smallwood Jr. of Ahoskie; two daughters, Peggy Smallwood of Ahoskie and Patrice Smallwood of Newport News; four brothers, Curtis Hall and Walt Lee Brown, both of Ahoskie, Stanley Hall of Ayden and Alfred Hall of New Haven, CT; six sisters, Hannah Ward of Norfolk, Helen Hall of Ahoskie, Goldie Hall and Viola Williams, both of Connecticut, Clara Mae Greene and Queen Benjamin, both of Ayden; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Georgia Robinson

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. n Georgia Mae Robinson, a native of Ahoskie, died October 13, 2006 at Cliveden Convalescent Home, Philadelphia.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

John Lambert

NORFOLK, Va. n John W. Lambert, 83, died October 10, 2006.

There will be a military burial at sea with full honors.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Lambert of Norfolk; a son, John Lambert Jr. of Eure; one daughter, Ellen Gilbert of GA; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
