Anne Pinner Knight died Nov. 5, at her home.

A native of Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Vernie Henry and Annie Pitt Pinner, widow of Clarence Walter Knight and sister of the late Eva Mae Crittenden, Irene P. Knight, Grace P. Schlaffer, Ruby P. Phelps, Robert L. Pinner, Clifton S. Pinner, Linwood Pinner, Russell Pinner and Charlie Pinner.

Mrs. Knight was founder and president of Knight Finance Company, which she opened in 1963. She was a member of Oakland Christian Church and the Loyal Fellowship Class.

She was a charter member of Suffolk Credit Professional and for 54 years had perfect attendance.

After starring as an All-State basketball guard twice at Chuckatuck High School, she played for the Suffolk Legionettes for a number of years, winning the title six out of seven years in the Portsmouth YMCA Women’s League and two out of three years in the Norfolk Adult League.

Survivors include her sister, Dorothy P. Kennedy of Suffolk; nephews, Kevin Kennedy, Terry Phelps, William Schlaffer Jr, Charles Schlaffer, all of Suffolk ; nieces, Betty Sue Plewes, of Suffolk, Betty Anne McCavitt of Wilmington, N.C.; grand-nephew, Joshua Kennedy and several other grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Oakland Christian Church by the Rev. Mark Burns and the Rev. Dave Wilson with burial in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at 1803 N. Main Street. Memorial donations may be made to the Becky Godwin Scholarship Fund, Oakland Christian Church, 5641 Godwin Blvd, Suffolk, VA, 23432.
