Christmas fund begins in earnest

The annual Cheer Fund has begun to receive donations.
The fund, which goes to support the Toys-for-Tots in Suffolk, has already taken in more than $2,000.
Donations to date include:
n $100Anonymous, in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Grant’s dog, Smokey
n $1,010 Billy Chorey, in honor of his mother, Frances L. Chorey
n $500 Suffolk Ruritan Club
n $150 Womble Generator Service Inc.
n $250 Producers Peanut Company Inc.
Total: $2,010
Goal: $45,000
Donations of money, or toys, which will also be given to Toys-for-Tots, will be accepted at the News-Herald office, 130 S. Saratoga St., from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays.
They can also be mailed to the newspaper at P.O. Box 1220, Suffolk, Va. 23434
