Mr. Robert McKinley Rogers, of 1110 Bethlehem St., Suffolk, went into eternal sleep on Friday, Dec. 1, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He is preceded in death by his mother, Annie Mae Collins, and his sister Erma Collins and brother Lee Valentine. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Rose Rogers, his children Gerard Rogers (Carole), of Georgia, Donald Rogers (Janeen), of North Carolina and his daughter Robin Rogers of New York. He will be missed by his sisters Betty Whitfield, of Suffolk and Margaret Valentine (Peaches), of the Dominican Republic, his brother Glastone Boone, of Franklin, and his brother-in-law Predell Ruffin,

of Suffolk. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 22 nieces, eight nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Roger is a former member of East End Baptist Church and was presently

studying with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was also a retiree of A&J Produce in Tantillo, N.Y. and was a veteran of the United States Army after serving in Korea. He also received a Bronze Star during his military career.

A Funeral of Triumph will be held on Friday, Dec. 8, at noon in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home, Inc. 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk. Brother Lloyd Holland will be officiating the service. Interment will be immediately following the service at

Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the family home.
