Mr. Willie A. Barnes Sr., 88, of 717 Brook Ave., died on Dec. 7 in Nansemond Pointe Healthcare Center. He was a son of the late Irving Barnes and Gronice Morgan Barnes and a native of Corapeake, N.C. He was the widow of Elnora S. Barnes.

He retired from the Norfolk Naval Yard after 33 years of service. He attended St.Phillip Pentecostal Holiness for the earlier years of life. Later, he attended Antioch United Church of Christ. He also played the organ for several churches in Suffolk and North Carolina.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories: three daughters, Lenora Barnes, Shirley Stith (Charles) both of Suffolk, and Phyllis Brown (Rickey) of Virginia Beach; son, Willie A. Barnes Jr. of Suffolk; brother, Benjamin Barnes (Mae) of Chesapeake; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Ajack Scott Sr. and Thomas Scott; sister-in-law, Magdalene Barnes.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday Dec. 13 at noon by the Rev. Jarvis Jones.

Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.
