Following are descriptions of two more scholarships available for Spring Semester 2009:

The Connie Patterson Memorial Nursing Scholarship

The Connie Patterson Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 in memory of Connie Patterson, who was employed by Internal Medicine as a medical administrator from 1996 until her death in 2006. Connie is survived by her husband, John Patterson, and two sons, Adam T. Patterson and Mark E. Patterson.

The initiative for the Scholarship Fund came from Connie’s co-workers at Internal Medicine, including physicians Alan W. Edwards, Robert G. Edwards, and Daniel K. Peak Jr., who wanted to honor her commitment to helping others through a scholarship to assist deserving students in the nursing profession.

Application criteria for the $250 scholarship are as follows:

Scholarship awards are to be granted from the distribution of the endowed account to students who are enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Paul D. Camp Community College.

Consideration will be given to projected contributions to the nursing profession upon graduation, as demonstrated by active participation in nursing associations while a student.

Students must be in good academic standing.

Students must have successfully completed the third-semester nursing curriculum.

Awards can be based on the financial needs of a particular student, but that need is not necessary.

Perry R. Adams Scholarship

This $250 scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Perry R. Adams, the founding president of Paul D. Camp Community College. In his lifetime, Dr. Adams devoted 55 years to education. His outstanding career included teaching at all levels (kindergarten through university) and serving as vice chancellor for the Virginia Community College System.

Criteria for applying for this award include being a high school graduate; enrollment in a certificate or degree program at PDCCC; maintaining a grade point average of at least 2.5; and having a demonstrated need.
