Election Day is here

Today, Suffolk residents will directly elect their mayor for the first time ever.

In addition, three boroughs will choose their representatives on City Council and School Board, and all Suffolk voters will weigh in on congressional elections and the race for president of the United States.

To cut down on wait times at the polls, remember the following information.

4The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.

4Remember your identification. An acceptable form of ID is a Virginia voter registration card, valid Virginia driver’s license, military ID, any federal, state or local government-issued ID, employer-issued photo ID card, or Social Security card.

4Make sure you are registered, and verify in what precinct you are registered, by visiting www.sbe.virginia.gov and clicking on “Am I Registered?” to the left of the screen.

4Do not wear or carry any campaign materials into the polls. This includes hats, buttons, stickers, T-shirts, or any other item with the name or image of a candidate. You will be asked to remove or cover it before you are allowed to vote.
