Happily missing Halloween tricks

What a nice Halloween treat on Bank Street!

Last night I sat outside on my porch with my bucket full of candy, anticipating the arrival of Trick or Treaters.

I wasn’t sure what this year would bring. In the past, children came to my house at all hours of the night. The neighborhood was littered with candy wrappers, property was vandalized and children over 12 years old tormented the younger ones by stealing bags.

WOW!

This year, I was very impressed with the parents who escorted their little ones and made sure they enjoyed the event. When 8 p.m. rolled around, the children were back home, safe and sound.

There was no gang activity, no loud noises, no bullying and no vandalism.

I made 2 trips around the house this morning to see if I might have missed some damage, but there wasn’t any.

Thanks to all the parents. Thanks to the police department.

I’m proud of all the children.

I know downtown isn’t Mayberry USA, but it could have been last night.
