An elderly Suffolk man is accused of pointing a shotgun at city contractors trying to get their tractors off his property Monday.
Workers, who had been hired to cut grass along the roadside, were trying to retrieve their tractors when Horace David Griffin Jr., 76, of Whaleyville Boulevard approached with the weapon, said city spokeswoman Debbie George.
The suspect told the two workers that the city owed him money, presumably over damage done to a field, and that they could not have the tractors back until he received a certified check from the city, according to the police report.
Griffin got agitated and was arrested after he opened his gun and pulled ammunition out of his pocket, according to police.
Griffin was charged with one count of brandishing a firearm. He was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond, George said.
