Suffolk children need your help

It has been an extraordinary year, from the lengthy and historic presidential campaign to the difficulties with the economy. The economy directly affects all of us, and particularly those who are the least fortunate. The Cheer Fund has helped the “least of these” for more than 80 years.
Last year, the Suffolk Cheer Fund was able to purchase more than $50,000 worth of toys for the Suffolk Toys for Tots. This, combined with other donations, including toys, enabled us to serve more than 3,300 children.
Because of Suffolk’s growth and the slow economy, we are certain there will be more children who will qualify for the receipt of toys. It is at a time like this that those of us who have been given much are the only ones who can help those who have little.
I recognize that it will likely be more of a sacrifice this year than in the past. As a result, we have set our budget to spend $45,000. Obviously, we need to raise that amount. Hopefully, you (your business, your club or your foundation) will be able to make a generous contribution.
If so, please make your check payable to the Suffolk Cheer Fund and mail it either to my office or to the Suffolk News Herald, Attn. Cathy Daughtrey, at P. O. Box 1220, Suffolk VA 23439-1220.
If you would like to receive publicity for your gift, please call Res Spears at the Suffolk News-Herald to arrange a time for a picture to be taken as you deliver the check. He may be reached at 934-9616.
Thank you for considering our need.
