New Year’s closings

New Year’s Day closings in Suffolk will be as follows:
City government: Suffolk city offices will be closed beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, and Friday, Jan. 2. Normal operations will resume Monday, Jan. 5, 2009.
Schools: All public and private primary and secondary schools and colleges remain closed, and will reopen on Jan. 5.
Libraries: All Suffolk city libraries will be closing at 1 p.m. on Dec. 31, and will reopen on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at 9 a.m.
Tourist locations: The Suffolk Museum remains closed and will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m. The city’s Tourism Visitor Center will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will be closed New Year’s Day. They will reopen on Friday, Jan. 2 at 9 a.m.
Recreation: Suffolk’s four major parks – Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, and Bennett’s Creek, will be closing Wednesday, Dec. 31 at noon and reopen on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 8 a.m.
Bus service: HRT will not operate on Jan. 1 or Jan. 2, in observance of the holidays. Buses will resume their normal routes on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009.
Trash: There will be regular trash collection on Wednesday and no collection on Thursday. Thursday’s trash will be collected on Friday, and Friday’s trash will be collected on Saturday. Trash must be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the day of the collection. For more information on refuse collection, please call Public Works at 514-7630.
