A 50-year-old Suffolk man is in jail without bond on charges that he sexually assaulted a woman who responded to a newspaper ad for a job cleaning his home.
Gregory J. Ziglar was arrested on Wednesday and charged with one count of rape and one charge of abduction in connection with the case, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George.
Police say that a 37-year-old woman responded to an ad for a housekeeper at a home in the 200 block of River Inlet Road. While she was touring the home with him, Ziglar allegedly sexually assaulted her. The victim then left the home and reported the incident to police.
George said that a search warrant had been executed at Ziglar’s residence, but she could not say what might have been retrieved, as police had not yet filed their report by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ziglar was being held in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
She also said police were unsure exactly where the newspaper ad appeared, though they believe it ran within the past 30 days. Anyone with information about the ad — or who might have answered it — is asked to contact investigators at 514-7945 or 514-7944.
Detective Carlos Gonzalez and Detective Joyce Williams are leading the investigation.
