PDCCC sets workforce classes

Paul D. Camp Community College’s Division of Workforce Development provides a variety of training and educational options in Franklin, Smithfield, and Suffolk. Following are some of the upcoming workforce courses scheduled at the Hobbs Suffolk Campus and the College’s Regional Workforce Development Center in Franklin during February and March:
Hobbs Suffolk Campus
Backflow Prevention & Cross-Connect
Helping participants understand backflow and recognize cross-connections, this one-credit class prepares individuals to test, inspect and provide in-line maintenance for reduced pressure principle backflow prevention devices, double check valve assemblies and pressure vacuum breakers. It is designed for plumbing, mechanical, and fire suppression contractors, city building and plumbing officials, public utilities inspectors, water and wastewater personnel, health department officials, and engineers. Classes meet March 13 and 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuition is $86.14.
Franklin Regional Workforce Development Center
Basic Contract Business Licensing
Providing an overview of the statutes and regulations that govern contractor licensing in
Virginia, this class meets Feb. 28, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $175. For more information, visit our Web site, www.pdc.edu/workforce-development.
Word 2007
This course focuses on the essentials of Word, including toolbars, dialog boxes and creating, saving, editing and formatting documents. Pre-requisite: Ability to use the mouse and an understanding of the basics of Windows XP. Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays, March 9-18, from 6 to 9:30 pm. The cost is $158. There is an additional fee for materials.
Excel 2007
Participants in this class will learn how to enter data, create formulas, copy and move data and format numbers in a spreadsheet in order to perform calculations rapidly and accurately and create charts. Pre-requisite: Ability to use the mouse and an understanding of the basics of Windows XP. There is an additional fee for materials. Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays, March 23 through April 1, from 6 to 9:30 pm. The cost is $158.
Beginning Motorcycle Rider Safety
This one-credit college course takes the rider through the basics of motorcycle operation, effective braking, turning skills and obstacle avoidance, as well as safe riding strategies. Each participant must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and be able to ride a bicycle. The class meets March 13, from 5:45 to 9 p.m., and March 14 and 15, from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuition is $86.15.
