More than 600 residential and business customers are expected to remain without electricity until nearly noon, as crews from Dominion Virginia Power work to restore power to the downtown area Friday morning.
According to Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George, a large tree fell onto a power line at E. Constance Street and Katherine Street at about 8:30 a.m. Friday, causing power outages in the core downtown area.
Numerous traffic lights were put out of commission, and traffic was being re-routed around the incident.
A Virginia Power database shows that there are 619 customers in Suffolk affected by the outage.
