The Nansemond River High softball team earned a measure of revenge Tuesday with its 14-3 rout of city rival King’s Fork. The host Bulldogs won all three of the teams’ meetings last season, including a play-in game for the Southeastern District tournament, but weren’t able to make it four in a row.

The Warriors struck for three runs in the fourth inning to snap a 1-1 tie and knocked King’s Fork pitcher Lindsey Holloman from the game midway through that frame. Nansemond River added a run in the fifth and eight in the sixth before closing its scoring with another run in the seventh. The Warriors improved to 3-1 overall and in district play. King’s Fork is 1-2 overall and in the district.

Nansemond River’s Jocelyn Ward hit a pair of triples and teammates Taylor Benson and Jenna Bryant combined for seven hits. Bryant, the Warriors’ pitcher, struck out eight batters and walked three in five innings. She’s expected to start again Wednesday when her team travels to play defending district champion Hickory, which lost 5-0 to Grassfield on Tuesday.
