Noncredit courses offered

A number of community service offerings are scheduled for April, May, June, July and August through the College’s Division of Workforce Development. You can upgrade your skills and make the upcoming months count by taking advantage of these special options in Franklin, Suffolk, Smithfield and online.

Noncredit computer courses

Three Microsoft offerings will be available at the Regional Workforce Development Center in Franklin during April and July. Each class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6 to 9:30 pm. Tuition for each class is $158.

Microsoft Excel 2007 will be taught both in April and July. The April class will be held April 6-15. The July course will run July 20-29. Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 will be offered April 20-29. Microsoft Word 2007 will be taught July 6-15.

Three computer courses for beginners also will be offered at the Workforce Center in Franklin, each meeting from 1 to 3 pm. They include Computers for Beginners, which will meet on Tuesdays, May 19-June 16. The cost is $50. (This particular course will also be available from 1 to 3 pm on Thursdays, May 21-June 18 at the Suffolk Workforce Center on 147 North Main St. in Suffolk and on Wednesdays, May 20-June 17 at PDCCC’s Center in Smithfield. Word for Beginners will be taught June 23 and 25; and Excel for Beginners will be offered June 30 and July 2, at a cost of $25 each.

Motorcycle/Basic Rider course

Basic Rider Course, a popular one-credit course, is scheduled six different times, meeting on Friday from 5:45 to 9 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 7:45 am to 3 pm. The following five sections still have openings: May 1-3; June 5-7; June 12-14; July 24-26; and July 31-August 2. Tuition is $86.15.

Online real estate course

The Principals of Real Estate prepares the participant to sit for the Virginia Real Estate Examination for a salesperson. The Commonwealth of Virginia requires successful completion of this approved 60-hour course, which runs for six weeks.

Since enrollment is flexible, a participant can start at any time. Participants who complete the course can take an additional test and review course at no extra charge. The course is recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation Real Estate Board. Tuition is $350.
