At Paul D. Camp Community College, we offer not only traditional college courses, but also a variety of options to serve the community, which include activities for making a difference, enrichment classes for children and events for pleasure.

Examples during summer semester 2009 include the Tour de Franklin event in June, Kids College in July, and a golf tournament in August.

Sponsored by PDCCC’s Registered Nurse students’ Relay for Life Team, The Nightingale Racers, the Tour de Franklin bike ride for adults and children will be held June 6 to benefit cancer research. Beginning at 8 a.m., the Tour de Franklin offers 75-, 50-, 25-, and 12-mile rides for adults. Beginning at 10 am, the Tour de Franklin: Tour de Kids features 5- and 2.5-mile parking-lot rides, kid’s games, face painting and more. Following the rides, a picnic is scheduled at 11:30 am for all participants.

The $25 cost for adults and $10 fee for children includes a T-shirt, refreshments, kid’s activities and lunch. For registration information, visit www.relayforlife.org/franklin, or call Carol Wright at 569-6723.

Kids College

Hosted at Paul D. Camp’s Regional Workforce Development Center, the annual Kids College Summer Program provides an opportunity for children and teens to participate in academic and enrichment workshops that are designed to teach new skills, develop new interests and hobbies, and excite students about learning.

Suffolk Golf Tournament

Hosted by the PDCCC Foundation, the college’s sixth annual golf tournament will be held Aug. 11 at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk. The rain date is August 18. Sponsored by the PDCCC Foundation to raise money for student scholarships and staff and faculty needs, the tournament begins with registration and lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m.. with a four-person captain’s choice format.

Three flights will be post-flighted, and gift certificates from Sleepy Hole will be awarded: $300 for the first-place team in each flight; $200 for the second-place team in each flight; and $100 for the third-place team.

Available sponsorships include $500 Gold, which includes a hole sign, four green fees, carts, lunch and refreshments; and $300 Silver, which covers a hole sign.

The cost for individual players is $75 and includes 18 holes of golf with cart, lunch and refreshments. The deadline for registration is July 24, but since the field is limited to the first 144 paid players, early registration is highly recommended to secure a place.
