Five people have been transported to area hospitals as a result of an accident on Nansemond Parkway.

The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the 3800 block of the road. One patient’s injuries are considered serious, and he is being transported by Nightingale air ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The road is closed between Bennett’s Pasure Road and Kings Highway. Traffic is being re-routed around the accident.
