Bulk waste fee makes yard work harder

The big do-it-yourself project at our house this summer is gradually thinning and/or removing large, overgrown shrubbery.

The city’s new policy of charging a minimum of $20 to remove yard debris has made the job harder and a lot more expensive. It will also create problems for homeowners every time the wind blows hard enough to break off tree limbs or take down trees.

The city’s offering several sites to take the stuff helps only those with the means to get it there. Those who don’t own trucks are out of luck.
