Emergency crews continue to clear the road of debris after a tree blew down on Route 58 near the scales late Monday afternoon. By 6:15 p.m., two of three lanes that had been closed were reopened.
In an emergency announcement Monday evening, city officials announced the closure of the lanes located near the scales.
The tree was downed by heavy winds and rain associated with a strong afternoon storm that has raced through the Suffolk area.
Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George said the downed tree was the only significant effect of the strong thunderstorm.
