Three teenagers have been charged with several crimes after police say they committed random assaults on multiple victims.

The teens are charged with attempted malicious wounding, assault and battery and conspiracy to commit a felony, said Debbie George, a spokeswoman for the city. On July 11, a 35-year-old man was riding a bicycle in the 100 block of Pitchkettle Road when some people traveling in a vehicle about 45 miles per hour stuck a broomstick out of the window and hit the man on the head. The man’s helmet was damaged and he suffered minor injuries.

On July 16, a 39-year-old man was riding a bicycle in the 2000 block of Pitchkettle Road when some people drove by and threw coins at the man. He was not injured.

The Suffolk Police Department Neighborhood Enforcement Team identified three children, two age 16 and one age 17, as the people who committed the crimes. When the officers looked at the children’s MySpace pages, they found photos of them smoking suspected marijuana. Smoking devices found in one of the children’s homes have been sent to the lab for testing.

Police believe the trio have committed other similar incidents, but have been unable to locate the other victims. Call 514-7860 if you know of any similar incidents. All three children are being detained at Tidewater Detention Home in Chesapeake.
